  It's a good day when perhaps the biggest retailer in the world is well beaten on price, but they were today. Ordered several tubes of oil paint and a tear off pallet pad. Couldn't beat the value and service. Have added CW to favourites and it will be my new go to site for art materials.

  First time of using this supplier - site was easy to navigate and I found what I was looking for, plus another item of interest. Prices seem fair and delivery was prompt. My only slight criticism is that the packaging could have been a bit better - two of the blocks of art paper I had ordered were creased at one corner, despite one being shrink-wrapped. Packaging was a jiffy bag into which three items were places with no other insulation against handling damage - one A3 size block and two A4.

  The packaging was damaged when I received it and the easel was broken in a couple of places. I called Cowling and Wilcox who firstly apologised (although it wasn't their fault) and offered to replace it immediately. I received the replacement within 3 days. Excellent service.

  Thank you for taking the time to review us. I'm so sorry you feel our customer service could be improved. We pride ourselves on our service and so are very disappointed to hear about your concerns. Once again, I do apologise. By way of explanation, we've had a lot of extra issues recently with the Royal Mail strikes and so our customer service has been under unusual pressure. We've also taken on a new assistant which slows us down a little due to learning on the job and taking away other assistants for training.   Cowling & Wilcox are one of the old, trusted art suppliers, and I have used their goods since the 1980's. In terms of service and delivery they were absolutely fine. However, the goods supplied did not match the online description, though if you scrolled carefully through the pictures you could see that the brushes were not Daler Rowney, as stated, but an inferior brand. I have given more details in my product rating.

  Excellent customer service. I ordered ProMarker Pastel Tones (Set of 6). On receipt, I discovered one of these had no chisel felt tip - obviously a manufacturing fault. Chris of Cowling & Wilcox immediately despatched a replacement, and his warehouse manager checked every ProMarker pen they had in stock to ensure they were all OK. I have ordered again from them since and won't go anywhere else in future. Highly recommended.

  I got in touch to ask what their dispatch and posting times were like with all the xmas posting kerfuffle and I got a really quick response saying they’d do their best but couldn’t guarantee anything- fair enough. I opted for next day delivery expecting it to take a couple of days but it came the day after I ordered in great condition. Very happy!

  I found the website really easy to use, when I wasn't sure I called the store and got through quickly and easily and received great customer service.
